It is not my birthday yet but...
...I already received a few gifts... You saw the one I received from my dear friend Isabelle (thanks again sweetie)... If you didn't, please, read my post about it here. Today, I received a parcel from my friend Marie aka Souris (mouse). She made a lovely 3D card and stitched a beautiful Calico design. Here is what was inside the parcel.

I love those cats. I love the fact that they always look like "I'm a good cat" while they are doing a silly thing.

I'm so spoiled by friends, this year and they are all so talented, I feel really blessed to have such friends.

Thank you so much!!!

First page
A long time ago, I was thinking about trying scrapbooking but couldn't find time to do it.

I finally did my first page the last day of my summer holiday this year. I wanted to do something simple dedicated to my kitty, Plume.

Here is the result...

I don't have a lot of stash, so I used the one I have to make cards.

The journaling briefly resume what a Maine Coon cat is: "Le Maine Coon est un doux géant et cela correspond tout à fait à Plume: une grosse boule de poils pleine de tendresse..." ("The Maine Coon cat is a sweet giant and it is exactly what Plume is: a big hairy ball full of tenderness...").

I hope to find some time (when I don't stitch) to do more pages. I especially would like to do something with the picture of Isabelle, P'tite Mignonne and me... I just don't know when I will have time to do it...

Merino
Thank you all for your comments on my previous post. I completely forgot to show you what I stitched when I was in the train...

I didn't want to bring a large embroidery because I didn't know if there would be enough place, so I took a small kit I received from dear Nicki.

It was weird to stitch on aida fabric because it's something I don't do anymore. When I arrived at Paris, about half of the design was stitched. When I arrived at home I was almost done.

Tomorrow, I'm going back to work after 4 weeks holiday, I think it's going to be hard for a few days...

First meeting
Yesterday, Isabelle and I have met for the first time in Paris. It wasn't just a meeting between two stitchers, it was also a meeting wetween two friends and that's the main thing.

The weather wasn't very good when I left Rouen, too bad as the day before the weather was nice (and it's sunny today!)... Isabelle told me she would be there to meet me at the station. And she was there and we immediately recognized each other. We got in touch with a friendly face and a large smile.

It was agreed that we spent the day (in fact noon and afternoon) at Isabelle's. So I had the great pleasure to meet P'tite Mignonne. She was shy at the beginning and then decided to carefully inspect what was inside my bag. We had lunch together and a little misadventure will remain, I think, as the anecdote of this meeting. As I told you, we got in touch immediately and the tiny thread representing our friendship has grown and has become stronger as time was flying.
Isabelle is a so sweet young lady. I thought about her as someone adorable, but in fact, she's much more thant that and I don't have words to say it, sorry...

I brought some gifts for Isabelle (to thank her for her welcome) and for P'tite Mignonne, but I got some too.
I decorated a small box for Isabelle and asked my Mum to sew a cat. P'tite Mignonne received a toy with catnip. She's so cute and believe me, this cat smiles!
I just took a picture of the box (I forgot to take a picture of the other gifts, but maybe Isabelle will show you a picture on her blog).

Isabelle is a sweetheart but she's also very generous. Two gifts were waiting for me. The first one was for fun, to celebrate this meeting.

Everytime I'll drink some tea in my new mug, I'll think about Isabelle and P'tite Mignonne. The cat is quite like her.

I also had my birthday gift, two weeks early. I was (I'd better say I am) amazed by this wonderful patchwork plaid. This is the first one I have and be sure I'm going to treasure it. It is one of the most beautiful gift I've received. Look at this work, all this delicacy. Really, I adore it (and it seems I'm not the only one...).

I had the great pleasure to meet Sebastien (Isabelle's boyfriend) too and he's as friendly as her.

We spent time chatting about cats, embroidery, etc. We chatted so much that I missed my train!!!

It was the best day of this year summer holiday. Isabelle is a sweetheart. In fact, I don't have words to talk about this (too short) day, but I know Isabelle understands what I mean and will read between the lines.
Thanks a bunch, Isabelle, for this lovely day and for your precious fri
endship.

Oops, I nearly forgot, here is a picture of our meeting (Sebastien says we look like sisters. He isn't entirely wrong in saying that, is he?). Look at P'tite Mignonne's face...

I'm sure you wonder: "does she stitch or not? Because she doesn't show us a lot...". Well, in fact, I do stitch, but I can't show you what I stitch as it's for an exchange (Crazy Cat Lady Exchange), and I have to keep it secret...

But there is something I can show!

Yes, I'm done with the alphabet of my Celtic Banner (just need to had the 2 squares on the side of Y and Z).
So, pull on your Happy Dance shoes and dance with me!!!

Now I'm proud to say I stitched 1/4 of what's inside the border.

Botticelli, Veronese, Raphaël...
Yesterday, I went to the Rouen Fine Arts Museum (France) with my Mom, where a number of highly important works from the museums of Florence (Italy) are exhibited (19 May - 3 September 2006).

Mirroring the Age is the name of this wonderful exhibition.

It is composed of 80 paintings, sculptures and objects, linked together by a common theme: the representation of man and his place in the world.

Portrait painting has a central place. Pollaiolo's emblematic Portrait of a Young Woman is one of the masterpiece of the exhibition.

Celtic banner: the come back
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The last time worked on my CB was a long time ago (I think it was in April or so)... I thought it didn't look good especially because I'd like to have it done quickly. So yesterday, I told myself that it would be a good idea to work on it. You see, life is not a fairy tale, so no elf worked on it at night while I was sleeping, so there is a lot of job before I'm done with it.

I stitched the second line yesterday and the third one today. One line a day, that's not so bad!

Raccoon?
One of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the Maine Coon is generally regarded as a native of the state of Maine (in fact, the Maine Coon is the official Maine State Cat). A number of attractive legends surround its origin. A wide-spread (though biologically impossible) belief is that it originated from matings between semi-wild, domestic cats and raccoons.

This myth, bolstered by the bushy tail and the most common coloring (a raccoon-like brown tabby) led to the adoption of the name 'Maine Coon.' (Originally, only brown tabbies were called 'Maine Coon Cats;' cats of other colors were referred to as 'Maine Shags.')

Another popular theory is that the Maine sprang from the six pet cats which Marie Antoinette sent to Wiscasset, Maine when she was planning to escape from France during the French Revolution. Most breeders today believe that the breed originated in matings between pre-existing shorthaired domestic cats and overseas longhairs (perhaps Angora types introduced by New England seamen, or longhairs brought to America by the Vikings).

First recorded in cat literature in 1861 with a mention of a black and white cat named 'Captain Jenks of the Horse Marines,' Maine Coons were popular competitors at early cat shows in Boston and New York. A brown tabby female named 'Cosie' won Best Cat at the 1895 Madison Square Garden Show.

Unfortunately, their popularity as show cats declined with the arrival in 1900 of the more flamboyant Persians. Although the Maine Coon remained a favorite cat in New England, the breed did not begin to regain its former widespread popularity until the 1950's when more and more cat fanciers began to take notice of them, show them, and record their pedigrees. In 1968, six breeders formed the Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association (MCBFA) to preserve and protect the breed. Today, MCBFA membership numbers over 1000 fanciers and 200 breeders. By 1980, all registries had recognized the Maine Coon, and it was well on its way to regaining its former glory.

Maine Coons were well established more than a century ago as a hardy, handsome breed of domestic cat, well equipped to survive the hostile New England winters. Nature is not soft-hearted. It selects the biggest, the brightest, the best fighters, and the best hunters to breed successive generations. Planned breedings of Maine Coons are relatively recent. Since planned breeding began, Maine Coon breeders have sought to preserve the Maine Coon's "natural," rugged qualities. The ideal Maine Coon is a strong, healthy cat.

Interestingly, the breed closest to the Maine Coon is the Norwegian Forest Cat which, although geographically distant, evolved in much the same climate, and lends credence to the theory that some of the cats responsible for developing the Maine Coon were brought over by the Vikings.

A new design and a sensitive to cold cat
I wanted something different for my blog and I spent a few hours yesterday to do some changes here. I hope you like them...

Now, here are some pictures of Plume I took a few hours ago. As the weather has returned to normality (23°C instead of 30°C in the apartment), I guess Plume thinks it is time to slip under a warm and soft woollen blanket...

Needleroll 2
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I hope you don't mind if I don't post regularly during my holidays, but I have so many things to do that I'd like to take advantage of my free time...

Yesterday, I found a ribbon that would fit with the "orange" needleroll, so I finished it.

I like it as much as the previous one.

Now, I'm working on the needleroll for the exchange, so I can't show you pictures. You'll have to wait September to see it...
